Thesis Statements

A good thesis statement will have the following:
1) Position: It will come at the end of the introductory paragraph.
2) Purpose: It will state the primary purpose of the essay.
3) Format: It will give a brief overview of the major ideas the essay will present. Each idea in the thesis statement will represent one body paragraph, and the order in which the ideas will be presented.
4) Parallelism: The three items should all be expressed with the same grammatical consistency.
5) Bias: It should be written in neutral terms if possible.

Example: The subject is firewood. You will deal with oak, willow, and fur. The end result will be a recommendation about their relative efficiency as a heat source.

Thesis statement based on the information above:

This paper will discuss willow, fir, and oak firewoods to decide which is the best to burn for fuel.
(Note the order; it goes from worst to best)

Write a thesis statement for the following topic.

1) Motivation is the subject. You will explain what it is by giving standard book meanings, explaining some differences between motivation and closely related words, and examining some closely associated ideas.

2) Give feedback to two classmates concerning their thesis.

The worst out of fir, willow and firewood would be fir because they only use it for building purposes like for example the dry wall in your house. The second worst would be willow because they use it most for medicine. The best for fire burning is firewood it has been used as fuel over the past decades for fire burning because it works very well and is a renewable source

The concept of motivation is best understood by examining it's standard definitions, comparing it with similiar words, and expounding upon related ideas.

"Student", you seem to be using multiple sentences, when Thesis Statements are comprised of only a single sentence, as the example indicates.

To fully understand the essence of human motivation, we will look into its typical meaning, compare it to closely related traits, and dig deep into its root and connected ideas.

I agree with Joshua that Student's thesis is more of an introduction paragraph, though quite thorough.

Joshua, your thesis is well thought out and flows nicely.
